Sponsorship spotlight
WorkCoverSA is proud to be a sponsor of the Australian Paralympic Committee. Through this sponsorship, we aim to empower injured workers to see that return to work is possible. We are running several motivational sessions with our Australian Paralympians where injured workers are invited to attend. In each session, these outstanding athletes will share their personal stories about their injuries and how they faced enormous challenges to return to everyday life. They will be joined by an injured worker who will also share their own personal journeys of recovery and return to work.
These sessions are an inspiration to all of us as we hear how these ordinary people showed extraordinary spirit to overcome adversity and continue to achieve.

More than one million people in Australia experience depression, anxiety or related substance-use disorders each year. With depression affecting one in five people at some point in their lifetime, these figures have a significant impact on Australian workplaces. Depression is the leading cause of non-fatal disability in Australia and the World Health Organization has predicted that by 2020, depression will be the second leading cause of disability and mortality in the world.
WorkCoverSA is proud to partner with beyondblue through our sponsorship of their National Workplace Program workshops, which focus on raising awareness of depression and anxiety, their impact in the workplace and how employers can support the return to work of employees with depression or anxiety. We know from our experience with injured workers that employees who suffer from a workplace injury have a higher tendency to be diagnosed with psychological issues such as depression and anxiety, which can have a significant impact on individuals, their families, the workplace and organisations as a whole. Through our partnership with beyondblue, employers are able to gain a better understanding of the area of mental health that will enable them to better assist injured workers in this position.
beyondblue workshops for employers will run in metropolitan and regional South Australia from February-June 2010.

The program aims to reach all year 10 students in South Australia.
