Commercial Kitchen Campaign

WorkCoverSA is proud to partner with the Julian Burton Burns Trust in their Commercial Kitchen Campaign. Statistics show that more than 1 in 5 burn injuries for males aged 15-30 were sustained at work and kitchen hands are one of the top 10 most common occupations for these injuries. All burn injuries occurring in commercial kitchens are preventable and unfortunately less than 80% of burn injuries presented to hospitals have received any first aid. Through the Commercial Kitchen Campaign, we aim to raise awareness about burn injuries, educate on the prevention and first aid steps, to ultimately reduce the number of burn injuries occurring in commercial kitchens and minimise its impact by reducing time off work. The campaign will provide local businesses with commercial kitchens with an education and awareness pack that contains informative posters and a burn injury first aid kit.

beyondblue

Beyondblue

More than one million people in Australia experience depression, anxiety or related substance-use disorders each year. With depression affecting one in five people at some point in their lifetime, these figures have a significant impact on Australian workplaces. Depression is the leading cause of non-fatal disability in Australia and the World Health Organization has predicted that by 2020, depression will be the second leading cause of disability and mortality in the world.

WorkCoverSA is proud to partner with beyondblue through our sponsorship of their National Workplace Program workshops, which focus on raising awareness of depression and anxiety, their impact in the workplace and how employers can support the return to work of employees with depression or anxiety. We know from our experience with injured workers that employees who suffer from a workplace injury have a higher tendency to be diagnosed with psychological issues such as depression and anxiety, which can have a significant impact on individuals, their families, the workplace and organisations as a whole. Through our partnership with beyondblue, employers are able to gain a better understanding of the area of mental health that will enable them to better assist injured workers in this position.
