Rehabilitation priorities

Our goal is to support you to return to suitable, safe employment while providing compensation for loss of earnings and covering medical and rehabilitation expenses.

We think the best outcome is that you recover and return to work with your pre-injury
employer in the same job. However, there are some other good outcomes that may be
achieved if this is not possible. They are:

  • return to work with your pre-injury employer in a different job
  • return to work with a different employer in the same job
  • return to work with a different employer in a different job
  • restoration to the community if you cannot return to work.

Getting the most from your treatment

How quickly you recover often depends on getting the most from your health and rehabilitation treatment.

These are some of the questions you could ask during a consultation

  • What is my treatment plan?
  • What are my rehabilitation goals?
  • How do I know if my treatment is effective?
  • How do I know if I'm making progress?
  • What can I do at home to help my recovery?
  • How will my treatment plan change as I recover?
  • Do you know my workplace?
  • Do my restrictions apply all the time?

If your treatment is working for you, you will notice improvement. If you don't, the treatment may not be right for you and you should talk to your health care provider or case manager about it. You have the right to choose your own treating health care providers.

Doctors, treatment providers and even case managers sometimes sound like they have a language all of their own. If you don't understand something they've told you about your claim or rehabilitation, don't feel uncomfortable asking them to say it again in 'plain English'.
